A very special Open Studio/Listening Party

Join us on Monday, January 23 for a very special open studio/public art informational session/listening party! 7-9:30pm at Modern Art.

Modern Art is pairing up with Lancaster’s Public Arts program to bring you a new kind of open studio: one where you can create, listen, get info and brainstorm all at the same time!

The wonderful Heidi Leitzke and Amy Ruffo, from the Public Arts Advisory Board will be presenting information about an opportunity for Artists to create something really special, inspired by the Lancaster Sound Map— a project by sound artist Stuart Hyatt (pictured above on an ArtBike he rode around as he got to know our fair city.)

Bring your projects (painting, drawing, writing, juggling, dancing, hula-hooping, anything!) and supplies and we’ll set you up at a table, a chair, a couch, the floor– somewhere comfortable for you to work and listen and be inspired.

DD_EVENT_ANNOUNC

FRIDAY, JUNE 24

Presented by Series 42

Music comes second nature to these ladies. Donna Volles has spent years laying the bass groove for Lavacave. Songwriter Liz Fulmer, a regular on the local music scene, makes her Lancaster debut on drums. Singer/guitarist Kelly Buchanan has toured nationally with her powerhouse vocals and critically acclaimed songs – songs that have been covered by the likes of Sara Bareilles, Fountains of Wayne, Nada Surf and others.

The Dolls are finding new horizons in this lineup! Old songs, penned by Buchanan and Fulmer, are being reinvented and new songs are being added to the group’s riot grrrl grit-pop arsenal as well.

TIny Modern Concert: Cory McAbee’s Small Star Seminar

McAbee_Album_Cover_red

Cory McAbee’s Small Star Seminar
Wednesday, April 20, 2016
Doors at 7pm, Show starts at 8pm
$10, tickets available at the door (first come, first served)
Visit our facebook event here.

The Small Star Seminar is a genre-twisting performance like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Part concert, part self-help, part comedy, part avant-guard art, part movie, part musical theater: a singing motivational speaker urges people to give up their goals, stop reaching for the stars and to start looking for the stars within their own minds. The performance features optimistic songs about quitting, accepting one’s own limitations, the power of sitting quietly.

Throughout the performance, writer, director and actor Cory McAbee will address the theory of “Deep Astronomy” and answer questions from the audience.

This project has been featured and developed in part through the Sundance Film Festival, NY Film Festival, Lincoln Center Film Society, Reykjavik Film International Festival, 36th Stage Songs Review and Marfa Film Festival. All performances are being documented for use in an upcoming feature film, written and directed by Cory McAbee. Audience participation is welcome.

Cory McAbee is best known as writer, director, songwriter and composer for the award-winning feature films, The American Astronaut (nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, 2001) Stingray Sam (2009), Crazy and Thief (2012) and as singer/songwriter for the internationally acclaimed musical group The Billy Nayer Show.

For more info, you should definitely visit http://corymcabee.net/. But if you like being surprised, just come on out. Trust us on this.
